Georgia Quilt Council

Our History

The Georgia Quilt Council celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2003. When Rosie Wade organized The North Georgia Quilt Council in 1983, the group consisted of delegates from each member guild. The mission was and remains to promote quilting education, information sharing, community service projects, and leadership opportunities within the Council.

In 1990, the Council reorganized as the Georgia Quilt Council. In 1993 membership was opened to individuals rather than being limited to guilds and in 1994 the Council incorporated as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit entity.

Through the years the Council has sponsored lectures, workshops and retreats as it continues to develop, promote and encourage the art of quilt-making as well as assisting the organization of new guilds around the state. Currently the Council has begun the process of establishing the Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum.
